The Ochre House
Four rooms of one home, reworked in a renovation that keeps its voice low: a kitchen, a main bedroom and bathroom, and one small room allowed to break the rules.
The clients asked for calm. Earthy, clean, serene, built from good materials rather than colour. So the palette stays close to sand and oak: fluted oak panelling, lime plaster walls, marble with quiet movement, and a carved cornice drawing every room together at the ceiling. In the bedroom, a botanical wallpaper and an upholstered panelled wall bring pattern in gently, under a chandelier shaped like falling leaves. Texture does the work colour usually would.
Then there's the snug. One small sitting room the clients wanted moody, dark, and entirely its own: deep walls, a pair of olive chairs, and a flash of lacquered red shelving doing exactly what a pop of colour should. In a home this restrained, one room with attitude is all it takes.
